Rangers have now joined race to £3.5m winger this summer and Leeds could their make move in ‘coming weeks’

Rangers and French side Lens have joined Leeds United in the race for a very highly sought after winger this summer.

After once again missing out on the Scottish Premiership title to Old Firm rivals Celtic, Rangers are undergoing somewhat of a squad overhaul this summer.

Philippe Clement is overseeing his first summer transfer window in charge at Ibrox and have already worked quickly to bring in four new players.

Leeds, on the other hand, are still yet to make their first foray into the market after almost two weeks of the window being open.

However, wingers are certainly going to be on the agenda at Elland Road once they really start motoring on new signings, with Jaidon Anthony already gone, and both Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto wanted elsewhere.

Rangers have now joined race for Couhaib Driouech

Leeds could easily make in excess of £50 million by selling Summerville and Gnonto this summer, and so it would be interesting to see how much of that they would reinvest.

Summerville’s asking price has been set around the £30 million mark, while bids just shy of that were rejected for Gnonto last summer.

FC Basel’s Liam Millar is one of the players reportedly on Leeds’ radar if that duo were to move on, but there was another name mentioned as a potential target earlier in the window.

Leeds are said to be one of 10 clubs eyeing up a move for FC Excelsior winger Couhaib Driouech this summer, alongside the likes of Dutch champions PSV and Victor Orta’s Sevilla.

PSV had been leading the race but their offer of £2 million fell way short of Excelsior’s valuation of between £3m-£3.5 million.

But it appears as though Leeds and the other 10 sides could now face even more competition for Driouech, with Rangers now seemingly in the chase.

Ben Jacobs says Driouech is ‘one to watch’ for Leeds

Journalist Ben Jacobs discussed news of Leeds’ interest in Driouech earlier this month and confirmed there was substance behind reports from the Netherlands.

Jacobs claimed that Leeds are ‘one to watch over the coming weeks’ when it comes to the race for the winger, who got six goals and six assists in Eredivisie last season despite Excelsior’s relegation.

Of course, as mentioned previously, Leeds’ interest is likely to hinge on the futures of the wingers currently at the club.

Jacobs said: “They are fishing around the market for these under five, under £10 million players, contingent on the outgoings. You have to go into different markets… From what I am told they are going to be looking in the Dutch market and there is some substance to the links to Couhaib Driouech, who is one to watch over the coming weeks.”
