Daniel Farke might have expected a quiet January transfer window but injuries and interest from other clubs in his Leeds United squad might just force Leeds to take action.

Already this month, six Leeds players have been linked with the exit door. They include Pascal Struijk, who has been linked with Tottenham and Patrick Bamford is a target for Serie A side Genoa, but also Wrexham.

So, not only may Leeds want to make a couple of signings in January but they may have to consider some replacements. One player actually wants to leave Leeds, and understandably given his lack of game time.

Joe Gelhardt receives enquiries from abroad to leave Leeds

Joe Gelhardt is keen on a Leeds exit this month, given the forward has only played three times. At Hull on Saturday, he only made the Leeds bench for the first time in two months with three players above him.

That is despite Gelhardt impressing Daniel Farke in training. Plymouth’s decision to sack Wayne Rooney may mean Gelhardt ignores Argyle, but there are plenty of other clubs it seems to choose from right now.

Indeed, journalist Darren Witcoop reports on X that Gelhardt is interesting five Championship clubs in the form of Cardiff City, Portsmouth, QPR, Plymouth and Derby County all want to sign Gelhardt this month.

However, Witcoop also says that Gelhardt is weighing up interest from overseas clubs who have asked Leeds about a move. The identity of those clubs however, remain unclear at this current moment in time.

He said: “Gelhardt will leave on loan but his future destination still remains unclear. Several Championship clubs have registered an interest with the forward weighing his future up amid enquiries from overseas.”

What is the best move for Joe Gelhardt in January window?

Joining a club that are towards the bottom of the Championship means Gelhardt is going to struggle to get the chances in front of goal that he craves, in order to go and score plenty and then prove himself.

All five that are interested are embroiled in a battle against the drop and that will do Gelhardt no favours. Possibly, it might be better to consider a top-end League One outfit, or consider one of his offers abroad.

As states, the identity of the clubs remains an unknown so it is difficult to know if that would be a good move. But, Gelhardt will leave on loan and it is crucial he makes the right pick in terms of a new loan sid.
