It came out of the blue on Tuesday that Leeds United outcast Rasmus Kristensen had become a target for German side Eintracht Frankfurt, and now a deal is expected to happen ‘very soon’.

The 27-year-old defender was one member of Victor Orta’s eight-strong loan army last summer, jumping ship at Elland Road after the club were relegated to The Championship alongside defender Robin Koch.

The latter joined Frankfurt on loan last summer with 12 months left on his Leeds deal. In January, he put pen to paper on a pre-contract deal at Frankfurt and is now a permanent player at the German outfit.

Fabrizio Romano reported the news that Rasmus Kristensen could be set to join Koch at Frankfurt sooner rather than later. The Italian said that Denmark star Kristensen was a target for the Bundesliga side.

New details emerges as Kristensen edges closer to Leeds exit

Leeds have been sorting the future of Orta’s loan players. With Koch and Luis Sinisterra already gone, Leeds have offloaded Marc Roca and Diego Llorente to Real Betis, Jack Harrison back on loan at Everton.

Brenden Aaronson has chosen to stay, leaving Kristensen and Max Wober. Both have been at Euro 2024 and that has delayed proceedings in offloading the defensive duo this summer, but now it is in full swing.

After Romano’s update, Danish outlet Tipsbladet report that Kristensen is set to join Frankfurt ‘very soon’. But instead of a permanent move with Leeds wanting £12.6m, Frankfurt will sign Kristensen on loan.

Getting Kristensen out the door even on loan, makes sense

Leeds fans are somewhat excited by the return of USA star Aaronson. A player that is young, and despite his lack of physicality, did show glimpses of magic while in Yorkshire. For Kristensen, it would be different.

He really struggled at Leeds, and then endured an indifferent season at Roma. He is not as young, nor exciting as Aaronson and integrating him back into the side at Leeds would be a mistake from The 49ers.

Leeds have sorted out their finances and any possible breach of PSR by raking in £60m in player sales so far, so the need to sell Kristensen permanently is less. A loan, with an option, makes sense for all parties.
