The January transfer window is now just a month away from opening, and Leeds United are being linked with a number of potential new signings even if Daniel Farke expects a quiet month.
Speaking during Thursday’s press conference, Farke said he expects a quiet January at Leeds. But, that could always change if Leeds pick up a few injuries and the German said Leeds will not go to sleep.
There are a couple of areas in this Leeds side that could require another body. The no.10 role being the most obvious, with Graham Smyth predicting Leeds to try and bring in a no.10 before the deadline.
Leeds have been linked with a few left-backs, too. Junior Firpo’s contract will expire next summer and it is clear Leeds are preparing replacements as Dennis Cirkin, Archie Brown and Daniel Svensson all linked.
Motherwell captain expects “big move” for new Leeds target
Another player linked with Leeds this month is Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller. The 18-year-old has broken into Well’s starting line-up over the last 18 months, having a hand in 12 goals in 56 appearances.
Such is his form, he has already captained the Premiership side. Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that Leeds are keen on Miller, but Celtic, Rangers, Leipzig and Salzburg also want the £4m-rated talent.
Speaking this week about Miller’s future given he is being linked with Leeds and other clubs, Motherwell captain Paul McGinn says he expects the teenage midfielder to end up at a “big club” in the future.
“He’s some player, I’ve seen it for a few years now. Look, he’ll need luck, to stay injury-free. I’ve seen a lot of boys come in flying. But I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up at a big team,” Miller told PLZ Soccer.
Lennon Miller is a top talent, but do Leeds really need the teen?
Judging by the size of the clubs interested, Miller is clearly a serious talent. One that Red Bull are big fans of given the interest in him from Salzburg, Leipzig and now Leeds but do Leeds need another midfielder?
Josuha Guilavogui has come in as an emergency signing but only due to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev suffering injuries. But the duo are expected back at the end of the month, if not at the start of January.
Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka are on fire. Come the end of the season, two are scheduled to leave of those five in the form of Rothwell and Guilavogui so perhaps next summer, a move for Miller makes more sense.
But in January, if Leeds are to make any movements in the transfer window, the chances are it will be for a left-back and a 10 and that is, if Leeds try to make any signings at all. Farke seems happy with his squad.
