Leeds United continue to be active in their search for new signings before the end of the window.

Ideally, Leeds would have all their business wrapped up before the opening game of the season against Portsmouth, but unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Leeds themselves are relying on the futures of some of their current players when it comes to pushing the button on potential targets.

The sagas involving Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto could well drag into the latter stages of the window, which would then see Leeds on the lookout for replacements, of which they have identified.

However, there are already two positions Farke has made clear he wants additions for now, with both central midfield and full-back on the lighter side in terms of depth.

Leeds target Dejan Ljubicic’s past comments on future

Speaking after Wednesday’s win over Hannover, Farke particularly earmarked midfield as area that needs reinforcements due to the exits of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara.

Leeds have already brought in Joe Rothwell but Farke but does not see that as enough and so according to reports in Germany, the Whites have interest in FC Koln’s Dejan Ljubicic.

It is said Leeds are preparing a second offer for Ljubicic having had an initial £3.3 million bid rejected and it is a situation that can be taken advantage of as he has just a year left on his deal.

Interestingly, just 24 hours before news of Leeds’ bid became public, Ljubicic was asked to give an update on his future in an interview with Liga-Zwei.

Ljubicic says while he remains fully focused on giving his all for Koln, he is ‘in contact’ with the club’s hierarchy and certainly hasn’t ruled out an exit.

He said: “I am here and I am concentrating on the essentials, namely that I am performing well again. I just want to give it my all in training and offer myself to the new coach. That is the only thing that counts at the moment.

“Football is a fast-moving business. I am in contact with those responsible and my contract with FC runs until 2025 – I am here and I am happy.”

What Koln’s manager Gerhard Struber said about Ljubicic

Following Koln’s relegation from the Bundesliga in May, former Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber was appointed as the club’s new manager.

One of the questions put to him within his first week in the job was regarding the future of his Austrian compatriot Ljubicic.

Struber described Ljubicic as a player he is determined to keep due to the potential impact he could have on a promotion push this season.

Via Geissblog, he said: “Dejan is a player who has performed well for FC in recent years and can help us very, very well on the way back to the Bundesliga. Great. Simply great. The overall package is special. I am very happy to have him.”
