Leeds United are bound to be linked with a whole host of attacking players in the next two weeks.
With cash to spend and Daniel Farke‘s need for attacking reinforcements clear, agents and clubs are almost certainly going to use Leeds‘ name as a way of drumming up interest.
Leeds are currently in the market for two new attacking players who are capable of replacing a total of 50 goal contributions in the Championship last season.
Georginio Rutter is following Crysencio Summerville in making the jump up to the Premier League, with a deal set to be confirmed imminently.
Even with £65 million generated from selling the pair of them, it is impossible to see how they can be replaced at this level.
Rangers boss addresses Rabbi Matondo rumours
It has been less than 48 hours since news of Rutter’s exit and already a couple of new names can be added to the reported list of targets.
Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe and Burnley’s Manuel Benson are believed to be on there, but it is Rangers’ Rabbi Matondo and UD Almeria’s Largie Ramazani who are the newest to be linked.
Speaking ahead of Rangers’ League Cup tie with St. Johnstone this weekend, manager Philippe Clement was asked directly about the future of the ‘incredibly fast‘ Matondo in his press conference after links with Leeds.
Clement did not want to discuss too much about the Matondo exit rumours but did strongly hint he is a player who has been told he can leave.
He said: “No, I cannot say anything about that. There are so many rumours about players, we had a talk several weeks ago that it is important for the club to sell some players to get players.
“I don’t know what is going to happen in the next two weeks, so we will see. Yes [we are still in the position where we need to sell to bring players in].
“Some of them have known for a really long time and are still in the building so that makes things more difficult. It is what it is, I cannot put a gun to their head to get them out of the building.”
Matondo would be a dreadful signing for Leeds
Matondo would go down as one of the most underwhelming signings of all time if Leeds were to make their move, considering who he would be replacing.
The 23-year-old has not hit double figures for goals in a single season during his professional career, and so clearly would not be able to fill the void left by Summerville.
Signings of his calibre in the next two weeks would only increase the scrutiny that is currently on the 49ers’ ownership.
Thankfully, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Matondo is not currently a player Leeds are looking at this summer.
