Leeds United’s Supporter Trust has provided some clarity on the situation regarding Georginio Rutter.

Rutter looks set to become the third big money exit of the summer at Leeds after Brighton & Hove Albion activated his £40 million release clause on Wednesday night.

News of Rutter’s potential departure has understandably caused meltdown in the Leeds fanbase, given how slow things are regarding incomings.

It is now 26 days since Leeds last made a signing and given that three additions were needed even before news of Rutter’s departure, there is huge cause for concern whether they can find some suitable replacements.

Having said that, Leeds are still doing everything they can to convince Rutter to stay, even with the temptation of a new contract.

LUFC Trust shares new Rutter update

Reports from Germany have suggested that Rutter has made up his mind and does want to make the move to Brighton.

There have also been claims Rutter will undergo a medical as early as today, even with the final details of the transfer still to be clarified.

However, following on from their statement after contact with the club earlier, LUFC Trust have now shared an update on Rutter’s current whereabouts.

Responding to a Leeds supporter who suggested Rutter was already on his way to Brighton, the Trust have since moved to squash those reports.

They actually claim Rutter remains in training at Thorp Arch, though it is unclear whether that is because it’s still not agreed, or because he has made a shock decision to stay.

What Brighton’s manager has said about Rutter deal

With Brighton getting their season underway at Everton on Saturday, new manager Fabian Hurzeler conducted his first pre-match press conference today.

A transfer for Rutter was one of the questions put towards him, though he very much kept his cards close to his chest.

“First of all, I’m very happy with the squad we already have. It’s our job to search if there’s any player who fits our profile, our style of play.

“The character of the player is very important for us. If there might be a fit, we will see what happens, but to negotiations or to players we want to maybe see in our squad, I will never say anything.”
