Liverpool’s Ben Doak has one demand of Leeds United, but Wilfried Gnonto may have scuppered a move

After missing out on a deal to sign Igor Paixao, it looks like Leeds United have turned their attentions to Liverpool winger Ben Doak.

Leeds United are in quite dire need of attacking additions. Having bolstered pretty much everywhere else on the pitch, Daniel Farke is light up top and on the flanks and it looks like, it looked like Igor Paixao was the man who Farke wanted.

In the end though, Marseille beat Leeds United in the race for Paixao and Leeds United have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere. And in the last 24 hours, Leeds United have been linked with a move for Ben Doak.

Doak is among the options being considered by Leeds United for the right flank and at first it looked as though it would be a loan move for the Scot. However, news of a potential permanent move to Elland Road seems to be gathering speed.

Ben Doak makes demand of Leeds United amid transfer interest

Doak, 19 is a product of the Celtic youth academy but was signed by Liverpool in 2022. He has since made three Premier League appearances and 10 senior appearances for the Reds, spending time on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship last season.

The right-sided attacker scored three and assisted seven more in 24 Championship games for Michael Carrick’s side. But now he could seal a Premier League transfer with Leeds United. However, the young winger is in search of regular first-team football this season, per journalist Anthony Joseph.

Whether or not Leeds will be able to guarantee that remains to be seen. Farke also has to navigate rival interest from the likes of West Ham, AS Monaco and Bologna. Meanwhile, Liverpool want £20million to sell Doak this summer.

Wilfried Gnonto may hold the key to potential Ben Doak to Leeds United transfer

After Manor Solomon returned to pre-season training at Spurs, the right side of attack is a position seemingly up for grabs at Elland Road right now. But after some impressive performances in pre-season, it looks as though Wilfried Gnonto will start in that position when Leeds United play Everton on the opening day of the season next week.

And it’s certainly not a bad option for Farke to have going into next season. Despite playing a backup role last time round, Gnonto scored nine goals and assisted six more in 26 starts for Leeds United as they won the Championship title.

And given Gnonto’s renaissance in the side, it might put off Doak from joining this summer. Doak was outscored and out-assisted by Gnonto last season, and with the Liverpool man wanting regular first-team football this season, he may be deterred from moving to Leeds, knowing that he’ll likely play second fiddle to Gnonto or any other attacker that might come in on that flank.

At £20m though, it could be a good investment for the 49ers. It all depends on whether or not Doak feels he can get regular game-time in the Premier League next season with Leeds.
