Leeds United’s £25m summer target is closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the January transfer window

The January transfer window is now just four weeks away and Leeds United are set to be linked with a number of new players, with a new no.10 and potentially a left-back on the shortlist.

Graham Smyth expects Leeds United to move for a new no.10, but Daniel Farke recently said he expects a quiet January window. However, Saturday’s loss to Blackburn might tempt Farke to look at some signings.

Josuha Guilavogui has added some depth in the middle of the park, ending any new need for midfielders with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev set to return by January. But a new no.10 has got to be on the agenda.

Leeds were linked with Martin Baturina but he’s off to PSG

In the latter stages of the summer window, reports emerged from Croatia that Leeds had an offer of £25m accepted by Dinamo Zagreb for Martin Baturina. One of Europe’s young gems and a real talent.

It came as a surprise given the size of the clubs linked with the 21-year-old. Baturina rejected a move to Leeds and he stayed put, at least until the winter window and now it appears he could move to France.

Baturina could now be set to face Charlie Cresswell and Glen Kamara, with Paris Saint-Germain closing in on a deal. Germanijak say PSG are now far away from completing a move to sign Baturina in January.

Martin Baturina would have been a stunning addition for Leeds

The Whites are settled in defence, have Premier League-standard midfielders and wingers and while it is clear that Farke does not yet know his best striker, the three of them have what it takes to score goals.

But Leeds lack a top-quality no.10. Brenden Aaronson continues to start in the role but only because he is the club’s only natural 10, with the USA star struggling for form over the last few weeks in a Leeds shirt.

Baturina is being touted as one of Europe’s best young stars and had he joined Leeds in the summer, it would have completely bolstered the position that Leeds need to strengthen but it was always unlikely.

It says everything that Luis Enrique’s PSG want to sign Baturina and are willing to get a deal done in the winter window in order to stave off competition from other big European clubs to nab his signature.
