Leeds United tried to sign England international in January, now they could sign him on a free

Leeds United are putting plans in place for the summer transfer window with possible Premier League promotion on the horizon, and the calibre of player is clearly telling.

Leeds could have done with a couple of additions in January but failed to do so. The inability to bring in any new signings is not the end of the world, with the harmony not disrupted in Daniel Farke’s squad.

However, that cannot remain the same when it comes to the summer window if Leeds do go and secure promotion to the Premier League. Leeds need quality all over the pitch if they do go up this summer.

An improvement on Illan Meslier, cover at centre-back, a replacement for Junior Firpo, signing on-loan star Manor Solomon permanently, better at no.10 and up front are all areas Leeds need to really look at.

Leeds tried to sign England defender in January transfer window

According to a report from TeamTalk, Leeds tried to sign Southampton and England star Kyle Walker-Peters in the January window. The 27-year-old has been at Southampton for the last five years.

But with The Saints nailed on for relegation after beating Leeds to promotion last season, Walker-Peters is looking for pastures new. Walker-Peters wants to remain in the Premier League and Leeds are interested.

Southampton were willing to sell the England star for a fee of £7m in the summer, as per TeamTalk. Leeds refused to pay that figure but their interest remains, with Walker-Peters set to become a free agent.

Leeds could sign Walker-Peters on a free transfer when his deal expires, but will face competition from other Premier League clubs like Everton and Leicester City if The Foxes remain in England’s top tier.

Leeds United are also interested in Archie Gray’s Spurs teammate

Walker-Peters is of course a Tottenham academy graduate, where Archie Gray is currently impressing. But it is one of Walker-Peters’ old teammates that Leeds also want to sign, to solve the left side of defence.

Another player due to be out of contract in the summer, Ben Davies has been linked with Leeds before. But the experienced Welshman remains a player of interest ahead of the summer, according to TeamTalk.

Davies of course, is a teammate of Leeds’ Wales quintet and will surely be tempted by a move to Elland Road if Leeds go up. When Spurs have all their defenders fit, there is little chance Davies starts.
