New concern for Leeds United fans as worrying Daniel Farke stat emerges ahead of Sunderland clash

Leeds United go into Monday night’s clash against Sunderland having lost top spot to Sheffield United and there are more concerns for Leeds fans going into the exciting promotion battle.

It was expected. Leeds’ last game came in the form of a 4-0 away win over Watford and that saw Sheffield United play twice before Daniel Farke’s side were next in action. A five-point gap, turned on its head.

Leeds fans will have been hoping that The Blades slipped up in games against Middlesbrough and Luton but to Wilder’s delight, his side have secured back-to-back wins this week and go into Monday on top.

Leeds then, have to win to re-establish their two-point lead but if they only manage a draw, The Whites will still go above Sheffield United given Leeds’ incredible goal difference of 47 goals after 32 matches.

Beating Sunderland is easier said than done, for Daniel Farke

Sunderland are a top side, well-managed by Regis Le Bris and boasting some excellent young players twinned with older heads that are full of character. Jobe Bellingham, Chris Rigg and more are starring.

Anthony Patterson, Wilson Isidor, Enzo Le Fee, Chris Mepham – all excellent players. They are led by the character that is Luke O’Nien, and will be incredibly hard to beat. But it seems, even more so for Farke.

It appears over the years, Sunderland have proven to be a big of a bogey team for Farke whether that be as Leeds manager or during his four years at Norwich. Farke is actually yet to taste victory against them.

Daniel Farke’s record against Sunderland is a big concern

Farke faced Sunderland twice during his first year as Norwich manager, during 2017-18. But the German only managed a single point from a possible six, while guiding Norwich to a meagre 14th-placed finish.

At Leeds, he has since faced Sunderland on three more occasions. Last season saw Bellingham score a winner on Wearside before a 0-0 draw at Elland Road in April 2024 – while this season, everyone knows.

Illan Meslier’s howler saw Leeds throw away a 2-1 victory, and Farke’s first against Sunderland. So, can Monday see Farke break the Sunderland hoodoo and get his first win? He’s never had a better chance.
