Leeds United told to pay £7m for ‘quality’ player from Championship rivals

Leeds United are interested in raiding a Championship rival to sign a “quality” right-back as The 49ers look to add to their three summer signings already made so far.

The Whites are in desperate need of a right-back. Archie Gray has left to go to Tottenham while Connor Roberts’ loan at Leeds has come to an end, though there is an interest at Leeds to bring Roberts back.

Jamie Shackleton and Cody Drameh have also left the club on free transfers, the former joining Sheffield United on a three-year deal. It leaves Leeds with only injury-prone Sam Byram as an option on the right.

Byram is only likely to have been retained to provide cover but Leeds need a top-quality right-back to replace the loss of Gray. One player that Leeds have been linked with is a Sheffield United defender.

Leeds United told how much to pay to sign sign Jayden Bogle

The 23-year-old has spent the last four years at Bramall Lane, clocking up more than 100 games for the Blades. Last season, he scored three in the Premier League against both Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

Described as “quality” by Blades boss Chris Wilder, Bogle has now entered the final year of his contract and Leeds are keen. We spoke to Blades expert Lee Connor, who thinks Bogle would suit Farke’s side.

Alan Nixon has reported in The Sun (page 59, 14/07) that Sheffield United want a huge fee of £7m to let Bogle leave and join Leeds. However, the Whites disagree with that figure and want to pay less than that.

It is unclear how much Leeds may end up paying for Bogle

Clubs are looking at Leeds receiving £40m for Archie Gray, and raking in the cash following the sales of Marc Roca, Diego Llorente, Charlie Cresswell and Kris Klaesson and thinking, Leeds have money to spend.

But it is not as simple as that, and even if the Whites did have a big lump sum in the bank ready to spend on new players, they cannot be held to ransom and pay bigger fees with a Leeds premium included.

Saying that, Bogle would be a top addition at Leeds and is only going to get better. Whether a deal can be done for around £5m remains to be seen but surely, that is good business for both clubs involved.
