Daniel Farke is expected to be active in the final few weeks of the transfer window as he looks to put the finishing touches to his Leeds United squad ahead of another push for promotion.
Leeds get their campaign underway on Saturday at Elland Road as Farke’s men welcome newly-promoted Portsmouth. The Whites will be desperate to start this term in much better fashion than the 23-24 season.
Only four new signings have arrived at Elland Road and two of them do not improve the side from last season. Joe Rodon joins permanently, while Alex Cairns has arrived to replace third-choice Kris Klaesson.
Jayden Bogle will be the club’s first-choice right-back while Joe Rothwell adds a bit of deep-lying midfield creativity, something lacking from last season. But there is plenty of work to do in the last few weeks.
Leeds told £20m target is ready to play in the Premier League
With Crysencio Summerville gone, Leeds are in the market to raid Farke’s old side for 21-year-old gem Jonathan Rowe. The England U21 man starred for Norwich last season, scoring 12 Championship goals.
This morning, reports emerged that Tottenham are still keeping tabs on Rowe with a fee between £15m and £20m required to land the versatile attacker. Talks are ongoing between Leeds and Norwich for Rowe.
Quoted by the Pink Un, former Norwich City academy chief Steve Weaver has given his verdict on Rowe having played a big part in Rowe’s development. He believes the forward is ready for the Premier League.
“It’s not very surprising he’s had the impact he has had. Left-footed, right-footed, very, very quick, and he does the hardest thing in the game as well as anyone – score goals,” former Norwich man Weaver said.
“He’s ready to play in the Premier League. He’s a very rare breed. At 15, he’d just come and talk to you, other kids won’t do that, they want someone to do it for them,” Weaver continued on Leeds target Rowe.
Rowe is a good signing but only if the price is right for Leeds
It goes without saying that Leeds are not going to be spending anything close to the figure that Norwich supposedly rate Rowe at. The youngster’s contract does end in 2025, but Norwich can extend by a year.
There needs to be a compromise but if Leeds are told to exceed a figure of £12m, then they really have to look elsewhere to replace Summerville. He is an exciting talent, but still largely unproven at this level.
Leeds have to spend their cash wisely and bring in a player that is ready to go and shine in Summerville’s boots this term. Instant impact and helping the promotion push is more important than future prospects.
