James McAtee could definitely be a signing Leeds United continue to explore this summer.
With it looking like Sean Longstaff might not be signing after all, Leeds will have to quickly find different midfield options.
Longstaff was closing in on a Leeds move, but a third bid for the Newcastle United star has since been rejected.
This could open the door once more for Leeds to sign McAtee, who has made it very clear he could leave Man City this window, with £25m being quoted for McAtee.
A deal like this does fit into the 49ers’ plans, but another twist has taken place, which shows Leeds need to get a move on.

Leeds United nowhere to be seen as James McAtee future takes twist
With many clubs interested in the 22-year-old, Daniel Farke will need to stamp down his desire for the midfielder.
Since January, Leeds have been exploring the possibility of a deal, with it seemingly looking likely that McAtee moves to the Bundesliga.
However, it appears as though the City star wants to continue in the Premier League, handing Leeds an opportunity, but they aren’t taking it.
According to Sky Sports, Leeds aren’t named as an interested party when it comes to the midfielder, as Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have now entered the frame.

Leeds have now been overtaken in McAtee race
With it looking like McAtee is ready to move clubs, it’s unfortunate that Leeds aren’t even mentioned with interest at this stage.
The Whites are desperate for someone of McAtee’s qualities, and his performance for the England U21s in the summer should say it all.
However, with the 49ers taking their time in heightening their pursuit of the midfielder, Forest and Palace now hold an advantage.
This is due to their European exploits, as it’s likely both will feature on the biggest stage next season, which Leeds can’t offer.
Everton also want McAtee, which causes problems for the Whites, and it appears the Whites are slipping down in the pecking order of the star’s next club.
