Leeds United hold auction for £10m talent as new club enter bidding after Daniel Farke’s damning comments

Daniel Farke could not have been clearer when it came to Patrick Bamford’s future at Leeds United in his post-match comments, but he was slightly more vague with another.

Bamford was nowhere to be seen in Sweden and after the match, Farke confirmed he had told Bamford early on in pre-season that he was not in his plans going into the Premier League campaign this season.

That conversation will have been had before the striker spoke to LUTV recently, in which Bamford said he would “hopefully” be able to help pass on Premier League guidance to his Leeds United teammates.

However, Bamford was not the only player discussed by Farke after the 0-0 draw with Manchester United. The German gaffer also gave his verdict on the future of Mateo Joseph, and a pretty alarming claim.

New club enter bidding for Mateo Joseph as Leeds ‘hold auction’

Previously, Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that Leeds and Joseph had an agreement that he would be sold if a £10m offer arrived. Real Betis have been strongly linked, but are yet to provide the fee.

Speaking after yesterday’s friendly, Farke said Joseph had chosen not to be involved despite Willy Gnonto starting. He also opened the door for Joseph to leave, in what was a pretty damning verdict of Joseph.

Now, The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon channel that a new club have joined Betis in the race for Joseph. La Liga side Celta Vigo, who qualified for the Europa League, are also looking at a £10m move.

It is not the first time Celta Vigo have wanted a Leeds player…

Celta Vigo enjoyed a stellar 2024-25 campaign as Iago Aspas and his teammates finished seventh in La Liga. With five qualifying for the Champions League, the next two have won a place in the Europa League.

Celta Vigo need players and Joseph has emerged on their radar. But he is not the first player to be the subject of interest from Celta Vigo during Farke’s era as Leeds boss, since the German took over in 2023.

Indeed, the summer after relegation saw Phil Hay report of Celta Vigo interest in Illan Meslier – though nothing materialised. Leeds might hope that Celta Vigo would like to sign both Joseph and Meslier.
