Leeds United ‘closely monitoring’ Celtic player Sebastian Tounekti

Leeds United’s defeat to Brighton reminded supporters and Daniel Farke that the squad is still lacking quality in attack, and now a Celtic player is being linked with a move to Elland Road.

The 3-0 defeat to Brighton was Leeds’ fifth loss in 10 Premier League games, and a third in four. Despite that, Leeds remain on course to avoid relegation at the end of the season, boasting 11 points from 10.

But if Leeds are to survive or improve their position, better quality is needed in attack. Leeds recognised that at the end of the summer window, in trying to sign both Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson.

Both deals failed to go through. Robbie Evans has since claimed that Leeds have maxed out PSR, but reports say Leeds are planning for some signings. If there are to be signings, it will be attacking additions.

Leeds are now monitoring new Celtic signing Sebastian Tounekti

Sebastian Tounekti was a £5.2m signing for Celtic towards the end of the summer window, joining the club from Hammarby. Technically gifted and quick, Tounekti is still adapting to life north of the border.

Two goals in 14 games have followed for the four-time Tunisia star, but according to Tunisian outlet Maghreb Foot, Leeds are keeping tabs on the attacker. It is said Leeds are ‘closely monitoring’ him.

Certainly, if Leeds fans are to be convinced by the addition of Tounekti, then he will have to improve his numbers come January or next summer, whenever Leeds decide to make a move for the Celtic star.

Leeds can do a whole lot better than Celtic’s struggling star

Brendan Rodgers compared his Celtic squad to a Honda Civic before his resignation, and that is largely due to their poor recruitment. Bought for more than £5m, a steep sum for Celtic, Tounekti is proof of that.

Tounekti is clearly a talent and capable of creating magic out of nothing. But in a Celtic shirt, he hasn’t proved that yet. If Leeds are to look at Scottish football as a scouting pool, Celtic need to be a lot better.

That is, if Tounekti or any other player plying their trade in Scotland can come down south and make an impact. The gap between Scotland and the Premier League is growing; Leeds can do better than Tounekti.
