Leeds United boost as new report details encouraging update on Piotr Zielinski’s future

It has only been six weeks since the summer transfer market slammed shut, but Leeds United have already been linked with a handful of players ahead of the January window.

Managing director Robbie Evans said Leeds had maxed out their position with PSR. Any new signings would see Leeds go beyond the line and run the risk of breaking those rules, facing a points deduction.

Leicester, Sheffield United, Forest, and others have had to contend with overstepping the mark. If Leeds are to make any new signings in January, then the Whites will have to sell a player or two, as well.

Any fees spent in January will have to be raked back in, unless Leeds can organise a loan deal. Jermaine Beckford has urged Leeds to revisit a move for Harry Wilson, while an Inter Milan star is on the radar.

Italian report hands Leeds United a boost in Piotr Zielinski chase

Leeds are also being linked with Serie A duo Lorenzo Pellegrini and Piotr Zielinski. Two experienced Serie A playmakers, in different positions. Pellegrini has entered the final year of his Roma contract this season.

Zielinski, meanwhile, is struggling for game time at Inter Milan. The appointment of Christian Chivu has seen Zielinski start just one game all season, playing just 122 minutes of football in all competitions.

Zielinski is available for just £8.7m, but his £140k-a-week wages will be an issue. However, Corriere Dello Sport say Zielinski is now ‘expected’ to leave Inter in January and will reduce his wages to get a move.

Zielinski has been at the top end of European football for a while now. While he is 31, the Poland star still has plenty to give if given the chance. He scored Poland’s winner against New Zealand last week.

This is a player that can play anywhere in attack. Either flank, as a no.10, or even as a striker. A player that has scored goals right at the top level and might still just have a few years left right at the top level.

Whether Leeds could tempt Zielinski with a move to Leeds, or be able to afford his wage demands, is unclear. But, Zielinski would be a top signing and if there is a chance Leeds can do a deal, they should.
