Leeds United reportedly remain interested in a deal to sign AZ Alkmaar’s Ireland hero Troy Parrott, and some outlets even claim talks have been maintained after interest in the summer.
Parrott is the man in the spotlight at the moment after a mercurial start to 2025-26, which has been encapsulated during the November break. Parrott has single-handedly saved Ireland’s World Cup hopes.
Having netted 14 goals in 13 games for Alkmaar this season, Parrott jetted off for Ireland duty this month knowing that Ireland needed to beat Portugal and Hungary to win a World Cup play-off place in March.
A near-impossible task. Yet, Parrott scored a brace in Ireland’s 2-0 win over Portugal, before a hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Hungary, the final goal coming in the 96th minute. Dreamland for Parrott and Ireland.
It all comes after Leeds chose not to spend £25m on Parrott in the summer. However, LeedsUnited.News understands Leeds scouts watched the Ireland striker score twice against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
Surprise Troy Parrott update emerges in a big boost to Leeds
Reports in the Netherlands suggest Leeds remain interested and contact between Leeds and Alkmaar remains ongoing. Now, a new update has emerged and one that is largely surprising, given the summer.
His goals for Alkmaar and Ireland would surely have increased his price tag. But according to Dutch site De Telegraaf, Alkmaar are open to selling Parrott in January and a fee of £16m is deemed achievable.
Alkmaar are willing to cash in on Parrott for two reasons. The first being he cost less than £4m back in the summer of 2024, and that AZ currently have Mexx Meerdink playing back-up, a highly-rated Dutchman.

If Troy Parrott is available for £16m, Leeds simply have to swoop
He might be unproven in the Premier League; there may be doubts over his ability to step up to Premier League level, but Parrott is riding the wave and right now, is one of Europe’s most in-form strikers.
His goals haven’t just come in an improving Eredivisie. They have come in the Europa League, they have come in an underachieving Ireland side that has struggled for years, against Europe’s best defenders.
Leeds might be close to overstepping the PSR line, but it would be a riskier move to do nothing and allow the club to be relegated without putting up a fight. Leeds need more in the final third this season.
That is clear, having scored nine goals in 11 Premier League games. Parrott’s confidence, his form, his ability to produce out of nothing makes him a superb buy, if he is available for a fee of just £16m.
