Leeds could now have upper hand in race for £5m PL target

Leeds United could have the upper hand over Bournemouth in the race to sign Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow.

That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report Darlow’s young family are currently based in the North East which could hand Leeds the advantage in the race for his signature this summer.

Darlow is currently the subject of strong interest from both Leeds and Bournemouth with Newcastle set to allow him to move on before the end of the window.

Nick Pope, Loris Karius and Martin Dubravka are all currently ahead of Darlow in the pecking order despite a positive loan spell at Hull City in the second half of last season, who have already ruled themselves out of the running.

As per Alan Nixon, Bournemouth are set to hold talks with Darlow over a move today, though Leeds very much remain in the hunt with a goalkeeper next on their agenda after Ethan Ampadu.

Leeds could have advantage in Darlow race

Darlow is set to command a fee somewhere in the region of £5 million, however due to his current salary at Newcastle, they may have to pay him off in order to sanction a move, according to Nixon.

Bournemouth will be able to offer Darlow the chance to remain in the Premier League but is unlikely to be number one with Brazilian shot-stopper Neto the firm first choice.

With Illan Meslier expected to depart, Darlow would almost certainly come in as number one at Elland Road, all be it having to drop down a division.

If Darlow is indeed keen on staying close to his family and playing regular football, then Leeds could well be the move he opts for.

There is still plenty of work to be done for a transfer to go through, though.
