Leeds United’s pursuit of Igor Paixao is over with the Brazilian wide man choosing to join Marseille over Daniel Farke’s side – but as soon as he gets to Marseille, he might regret his decision.
Paixao was always open to joining Leeds, but understandably, he preferred a move to Marseille because they had qualified for the Champions League. Had Marseille failed to, he may have prioritised Leeds.
Leeds hoped that Marseille would be unable to reach Paixao’s asking price. Feyenoord wanted a fee of £30m for the Brazilian and after weeks of long-winded talks, Marseille finally agreed to pay a £30m fee.
Paixao is on his way to France and his Instagram story suggests he is currently in France ahead of a deal being confirmed. However, as soon as he joins, he may regret joining Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille.

Marseille move for frustrated Neymar after Igor Paixao deal
Over in Brazil, Neymar made an emotional return to Santos at the beginning of the year. But things are not going to plan, scoring just one goal and failing to create any more in a poor Santos side this term.
Neymar is already looking to leave Santos and Marseille are supposedly trying to take advantage. As per TyC Sports, Marseille have opened talks to bring Neymar back to France, to take on his old side PSG.
With Marseille already boasting the likes of Mason Greenwood, Amine Harit, Leeds target Jonathan Rowe and others in attack, Paixao joins an attack that is full of depth and fellow countryman Neymar could join.

Paixao’s chances of Marseille start diminish with Neymar signing
Last season, Marseille played with a 4-2-3-1 system under De Zerbi but with Adrien Rabiot playing as the no.10. As attacking midfielders go, Rabiot is certainly creative but is rather defensive compared to others.
Neymar’s natural position of course, is the left of the attack and while he does often play centrally to avoid having to put any kind of defensive work in, his best role in this Marseille side is on the left flank.
If Neymar signs, he surely starts over Paixao and it might just leave Paixao with a tinge of frustration and regret at choosing to go to France instead of being the main man in a Premier League team, at Leeds.
