Hull City now looking to elbow Leeds United aside with bid for ‘brilliant’ player eyed by Daniel Farke

Hull City are now hot in pursuit of a player Leeds United have been looking at over the course of the summer.

The Tigers are currently in the process of a major overhaul at the moment having replaced Liam Rosenior with Tim Walter in the dugout, and losing several key players along the way.

In a season City narrowly missed on facing Leeds in the play-off semi-finals, loanees such as Fabio Carvalho, Liam Delap, Anas Zaroury and Tyler Morton have all returned to their parent clubs, while key duo Jaden Philogene and Jacob Greaves have both been sold.

City did complete their first new signing of the summer earlier this week as Cody Drameh joined on a free transfer after rejecting a new deal at Leeds.

But they have plenty of work to do if they are to be competitive again, and they are now moving for one of Leeds’ targets.

Hull City enter race for Leeds target Liam Millar

Leeds are currently in a difficult situation when it comes to strengthening their options on the wing, as it entirely relies on the futures of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto.

There is a chance that both still go this summer and Leeds are primed to move for already identified targets if that does happen. However, at the same time, if their asking price is not met, they won’t go.

One winger who has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road this summer is former Preston North End loanee Liam Millar, who looks a certainty to leave FC Basel permanently.

Leeds and Sheffield United had reportedly been battling it out for Millar but according to Athletic journalist Joshua Kloke, City have now entered the race with a bid.

Millar was in the Canada squad that reached the semi-finals of the Copa America this summer, a tournament in which Leeds actually sent scouts to watch him in action.

However, it looks like this could be one they miss out on as the Tigers will be more inclined to close out a deal quickly than Leeds right now.

Millar would not be a huge loss for Leeds

As mentioned, Leeds are only going to move for another winger if their current ones depart but in no way would Millar be a suitable replacement for either Summerville or Gnonto.

Millar had two good games against Leeds last season and certainly gave Archie Gray a tough time, with the former Whites teenager hailing him as ‘brilliant‘.

However, with an output of just five goals and five assists, he simply isn’t consistent enough to replicate what Summerville and Gnonto can do at this level.

If Leeds are to enter the market for reinforcements, only a real marquee addition is going to satisfy supporters.
