Leeds United not only came close to announcing a deal for Ao Tanaka on Thursday, but The Whites are also closing in on a deal to sign St. Gallen right-back Isaac Schmidt.
Daniel Farke’s side have embarked on a mini window after selling Georginio Rutter, having gone a month without any signings after Jayden Bogle’s arrival at the start of the pre-season training camp in Germany.
Farke said after Rutter’s departure that he wanted four new additions. Replacements for Rutter and also Crysencio Summerville were required, as well as a new midfielder and a full-back prior to the deadline.
Largie Ramazani has arrived from Almeria for £10m while Manor Solomon has joined the club on loan from Tottenham, replacing Rutter and Summerville. Leeds are set to bring in a full-back and a midfielder.

Leeds paying bargain £2.5m initial fee to sign full-back Schmidt
Leeds are in advanced talks to sign St. Gallen full-back Schmidt before the deadline on Friday. Schmidt has spent the last three years at St. Gallen, clocking up 108 appearances and having a hand in 17 goals.
A right-footed left-back, Schmidt can play on either side of the defence with Leeds requiring cover for Jayden Bogle and Junior Firpo. Currently, injury-prone Sam Byram is the only option as full-back cover.
Now, Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger has delivered an update on Leeds’ move to sign Schmidt. He says the player will fly to England on Thursday before completing a deal worth an initial £2.5m, plus add-ons.
He said: “Leeds United is on the verge to sign Isaac Schmidt. from FC St. Gallen. Advanced negotiations between both clubs. Leeds ready to pay a transfer fee of €3m+ add-ons. Full agreement expected soon.
“If everything works out the full-back will fly to England tomorrow – after todays Europa Conference League match in Trabzon. Werder Bremen was interested in Schmidt too, but Leeds leading the race.”
Schmidt shows why Leeds want to sign him with Thursday goal
St. Gallen faced Turkish side Trabzonspor in a Europa Conference League qualifier on Thursday night and instead of sitting the game out, Schmidt played and he showed onlooking Leeds fans what he can do.
On the right of defence, he curled in a smart effort to give St. Gallen the lead on the night. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, the two sides played out a 1-1 tie with Schmidt lasting an hour before coming off.
Perhaps, a hint that he was only allowed to play a certain amount of time before he joined Leeds. The defender’s involvement proved crucial however, as St. Gallen went on to win on penalties on the night.
