Leeds United captain Liam Cooper is a late window target for Blackburn Rovers.

With Thursday’s 11pm deadline fast approaching, things are starting to finally happen in what has been the quietest January transfer window in several years.

Leeds are among the sides who are still yet to make a single signing so far this month but have been active in letting players go. First team players Djed Spence and Luke Ayling departed earlier in the month, while youngsters such as Darko Gyabi and Lewis Bate followed.

Leo Hjelde is expected to be the next moving out of Elland Road and according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have no intention of letting anyone else leave after that, including Cooper.

Despite interest from Blackburn and his lack of game time this season, Cooper is also reportedly willing to stay and fight for his place under Daniel Farke.

Cooper wants Leeds stay despite interest

Cooper has very much been second fiddle at Leeds this season with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk having been Farke’s centre-back partnership of choice.

In the absence of Struijk due to injury, Ethan Ampadu has also been preferred to Cooper at centre-back over the last few matches, a sign his career at the club is coming to an end.

Cooper is out of contract at Leeds in the summer and is unlikely to be offered a new deal. He could be forgiven for trying to secure his long-term future, but that does not appear to be the case.

Farke has said many times this season that Cooper remains a vital part of the dressing room, with his leadership qualities crucial to the young squad he has at his disposal.

While he may not necessarily be as important as he once was on the pitch, it is good news to hear that he is willing to stay for the rest of the season, as Leeds fight for promotion.
