It seems that Leeds United and Fulham met each other at the negotiating table more than just once this summer, as Leeds tried to land a couple of Marco Silva’s players.
Daniel Farke’s men ended up spending north of £100m on 10 players, the most expensive of which was Anton Stach. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha arrived at Elland Road on free transfers.
But Leeds failed to bring in what they wanted in attack. The club opted to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer after tabling a bid worth £32m for Rodrigo Muniz at Fulham, while Harry Wilson was an option.
The Wales star was Leeds’ main focus on deadline day, but Fulham pulled the plug late on having failed to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea. Leeds even submitted a deal sheet to sign Wilson in the final hours.

Harry Wilson says Leeds striker target is “mental”
Since then, Leeds have actually faced Fulham and suffered a 1-0 loss. A game was heading for a boring 0-0 before Gabriel Gudmundsson scored one of the most bizarre goals the Premier League has ever seen.
Kevin, Fulham’s £35m club-record signing from Shakhtar Donetsk, came on with about 15 minutes to play and changed the impetus of the game. Daniel Farke admitted he wanted Leeds to sign Kevin afterwards.

It also saw Calvert-Lewin start in the Premier League for the first time, but neither he nor Muniz could provide the difference on the day. Leeds signed Calvert-Lewin after failing to nab Muniz’s signature.
Fast forward to now, and Muniz has signed a new deal at Fulham. Fulham did a TikTok asking the squad for a one-word verdict on The Cottagers’ no.9 and another Leeds target, Wilson, said he’s “mental”.
How Rodrigo Muniz and Dominic Calvert-Lewin compare so far
So far, both Muniz and Calvert-Lewin have scored one goal apiece. That would suggest that Leeds have got the better deal, considering they saved £32m on Muniz and signed Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.
But actually, Calvert-Lewin should have plenty more goals judging by his XG in all competitions. The striker has missed big chances against Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth and Tottenham last time out.
| Name | Club | Games (Starts) | Mins | Goals | Assists | Mins per G+A | XG |
| Rodrigo Muniz | Fulham | 7 (4) | 347 | 1 | 1 | 173.5 | 1.68 |
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | Leeds | 6 (4) | 391 | 1 | 0 | 391.0 | 2.78 |
Jermaine Beckford maintains that Calvert-Lewin has been unbelievable, and offers a lot more than goals but Leeds need their starting striker to score. If he continues to miss, fans will feel Muniz was needed.
