Glen Kamara’s Rennes set to outbid Leeds United in chase for player Chris Sutton branded ‘selfish’

Leeds United are in the market for new signings before the deadline on August 30 but they could be about to lose out in the race for one player, with Glen Kamara’s Rennes leading the charge.

With Crysencio Summerville being joined by Georginio Rutter in leaving Leeds for the Premier League, the Whites have been linked with plenty of attacking stars including the likes of Jack Clarke and Calvin Stengs.

Another is England U21 attacker Jonathan Rowe, with the 21-year-old scoring 12 goals last season for the Canaries in The Championship. Leeds initially were set to bid £7m for Norwich star Rowe, below his value.

Since then, the likes of Marseille have become interested in signing Rowe this summer despite making a number of big additions themselves. Now, Leeds could be set to miss out in the race for Norwich’s Rowe.

Kamara could be set to team up with Leeds target Jonathan Rowe

A report from The Sun’s Alan Nixon on his Patreon channel says that Rennes are the latest club to take a look at Rowe. A player that Chris Sutton recently said is “selfish” after refusing to play for Norwich of late.

Nixon reports that Leeds and Marseille have offers on the table for the exciting, versatile star. But that a move from cash-rich Rennes who smashed Lyon 3-0 on Sunday could tempt the Norwich attacker.

Indeed, Marseille have been unable to agree a fee to sign Rowe and Leeds have been left ‘frustrated’ in pursuit of Rowe. Rennes are known for buying young, developing and selling and it may tempt Rowe.

What Leeds have done since initial phone call regarding Rowe

Leeds rang Norwich over a deal to sign Rowe but a report actually states that since the initial phone call, The Whites have done very little to sign the player. Indeed, there has been little follow-up for the player.

But there is no doubt that Rowe would be a solid signing. He would struggle to have the impact of a Summerville or a Rutter straight away but certainly, over time, Rowe can reach that quality and potential.

The issue is, is that Leeds need quality right away. Rowe is a talent able to play in a number of positions. But the Whites are surely better off signing proven quality that guarantee an immediate positive effect.
