Fulham 28-year-old would be the perfect signing for Leeds United, his deal ends in the summer

It is no secret Leeds United need a right-back, a left-back and possibly even a centre-back before the January deadline – but the chances of landing three players in the next few days seems unlikely.

Luke Ayling and Djed Spence left the club at the start of the month, Charlie Cresswell might leave and Pascal Struijk remains injured. Junior Firpo and Sam Byram are options on the left, but both injury prone.

Leeds desperately need a new right-sided defender, especially with Archie Gray picking up an injury on Wednesday night. A left-back would allow Byram to be used as an option on the right of the defence.

A centre-back solves the lack of options in the middle – with Ethan Ampadu currently covering in the middle. Leeds are not going to get three in the door – but we can sign a player that can play all three.

Fulham can help with that. Kenny Tete is out of contract in the summer. The Evening Standard say that The Cottagers have the option to extend his deal by a year. But he is struggling to start every game.

Leeds should consider move for Fulham defender Kenny Tete

Timothy Castagne is first choice on the right, Antonee Robinson on the left – and Tim Ream and Calvin Bassey in the middle. Netherlands star Tete, 28, can play in all three. But, he is not starting right now.

He is out of contract in the summer and if Leeds did try to sign him, that extension will come into play. But given his lack of game time, surely he would be open to a loan move – where he will get game time.

Leeds need a player that can cover more than one defensive role. He could be available given his deal, and that he is struggling to start on a regular basis. Tete would be a superb signing, for his versatility.
