Leeds United are being linked with a whole host of new signings as the January transfer window opens its doors, and one player on the Elland Road radar has been made available for transfer.
There are a few areas of Daniel Farke’s squad that could do with improvement in the next few weeks. The obvious one is back-up for Brenden Aaronson, with Aaronson starting 23 Championship games in a row.
Leeds tried to sign a handful of different playmakers in the summer but failed to get one over the line. The likes of Gustavo Hamer, James McAtee, Emi Buendia and plenty more were linked with Elland Road.
A centre-back could also be looked at if Max Wober continues to play at left-back, leaving a lack of cover for Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk. Up top, Leeds could perhaps do with a striker that will fire in the goals.
Aston Villa make Louie Barry decision amid Leeds United links
Champions League club Aston Villa have decided to recall Louie Barry from his loan at Stockport in League One, after the “unbelievable” star had a hand in 19 goals in 24 games – scoring 16 of his own.
The belief was Villa would now send Barry on loan to a Championship club. Leeds are in the mix for Barry but face a battle with Sunderland, Burnley and Middlesbrough while Sheffield United also want Barry.
However, a report from The Telegraph now claims Aston Villa are ready to sell Barry to a Championship club on a permanent basis. It is unclear how much Villa want for the former Barcelona talent this month.
Leeds will have to offload two strikers before signing Barry
If Barry is to join a Championship club then surely, Leeds will be right their in his thinking. Leeds sit at the top of the Championship table and if the second tier is where he is destined, then why anywhere else?
But, Barry will know that he will need regular game time to continue his upward curve in development. Joining a Leeds side that currently boast four strikers is not going to help the young striker’s career.
Leeds need to offload at least two of their four options up top. That might not be particularly difficult though with Wrexham and Genoa eyeing Patrick Bamford, and Joe Gelhardt is keen on leaving Leeds.
Should Leeds manage to rid themselves of high-earner Bamford and outcast Gelhardt, then they will surely be in the mix to land Barry. Leeds may prefer a loan, but it depends on Barry’s asking price.
