Daniel Farke wants Leeds United to sign 34-year-old free agent over three others invited to Elland Road

Over the past couple of weeks, it has been widely reported that Leeds United have invited a handful of free agent midfielders to Thorp Arch as Daniel Farke weighs up signing some cover.

Ethan Ampadu has been sidelined until the new year, while Ilia Gruev has undergone surgery having also picked up a knee injury. It has left Leeds with just Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell as senior midfield options.

Other than that, Leeds are lacking. Charlie Crew is a Wales international but the youngster is yet to make his senior debut for Leeds, while The Whites are also lacking in central defence with Max Wober injured.

Another knee injury, picked up while on international duty with Austria and the left-footed ace like Gruev has also undergone surgery. Farke wants a holding midfielder that can also play in the middle of defence.

Leeds United have been linked with four free agents after invites

So far, Leeds have been linked with four players. Initially, former Forest and West Ham man Cheikhou Kouyate was invited to Thorp Arch to train and a deal was expected for him but that has now gone cold.

Francis Coquelin was the next to be linked with Leeds. He starred for Arsenal and in Spain and Coquelin has earned praise from Mesut Ozil and Mikel Arteta in the past, but nothing has materialised there either.

Both were invited to Leeds, while World Cup winner and Farke’s old Gladbach player Christoph Kramer has also been in Yorkshire to train. Then, Josuha Guilavogui was spotted at Elland Road on Friday night.

Which of the four players does Daniel Farke prefer for Leeds?

Now, a report from TeamTalk says that of the four players linked with Leeds, Farke wants The Whites to sign freebie Guilavogui on a free transfer. He is a free agent after leaving German side Mainz in June.

The seven-time France star, now 34, has an impressive CV that includes Atletico Madrid, more than 250 games for Wolfsburg, Bordeaux, St. Etienne and then Mainz. Crucially, he can do midfield and defence.

It is likely that Farke is well aware of Guilavogui given he has spent the last eight years in German football. Clearly, Guilavogui is open to a move as he was spotted at Leeds to watch the win over Sheffield United.
