Celtic and Lazio want to sign player Victor Orta sold for less than £1m at Leeds United in 2023

Victor Orta resigned from his post as Leeds United’s sporting director in April 2023, a few weeks before the club were eventually relegated from the Premier League under Sam Allardyce.

Many will remember his last transfer window in charge as being catastrophically bad. A window in which Leeds brought in Max Wober, Weston McKennie and Georginio Rutter, getting his signings all wrong.

Leeds needed a talismanic, Premier League-proven striker and got a non-English speaking Rutter. Wober did okay but immediately jumped ship that summer and the less said about McKennie’s loan the better.

Sacking Marsch and in doing so, admitting the decision to sack Marcelo Bielsa and replace him with Marsch failed, Orta chose to leave after a 4-1 loss at Bournemouth but his last deal will surprise many.

Celtic and Lazio want Leeds United talent Mateusz Bogusz

In his third loan away from Leeds, Polish talent Mateusz Bogusz was earning interest from MLS giants LAFC. Cancelling what was a second loan with Ibiza, he joined LAFC for a fee below £1m in March 2023.

Since then, Bogusz’s career has blossomed. He has 43 goals and assists in 90 LAFC games, 33 of which came in 48 games last season with the 2024 MLS campaign ending in November and now, he is a target.

In the summer, Celtic wanted Bogusz. Now, a report from Lazio News says that Brendan Rodgers’ side have retained their interest in Bogusz while Italian giants Lazio are interested in signing the Poland star.

With Bogusz struggling for form in his second loan at Ibiza after a long-term knee injury, the attacker may have thought about where his career would really go. From that point, it only looked to be heading south.

But in Amercan, Bogusz has resurrected his career and is now a fully-fledged Poland international having won two caps. The versatile ace lead LAFC’s attack last term before they signed Frenchman Olivier Giroud.

While Bogusz’s career does look as though it will be back in European football, one thing is for sure. His decision to leave Leeds and start a new challenge in the MLS is an inspired one, and has saved his career.
