Regardless of who is in the Leeds United dugout come the January transfer window, Adam Underwood will know this team desperately needs attacking reinforcements.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s comments after the win at Wolves have come back to haunt him, claiming that the win at Molineux proved Leeds had enough in attack. Since then, exactly the opposite has materialised.
Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?
Explain why!
PSR is going to be an issue Leeds must overcome in the winter window. The belief is that Leeds will have to sell players if they are going to be able to spend, or step into the red and risk a points deduction.
That, or Leeds target some loan signings. Back in 2024, Leeds were linked with Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez before losing the play-off final. Gimenez had been on fire for Feyenoord, 65 goals in 104 games.

AC Milan make Santiago Gimenez decision after difficult start
With Leeds failing in their pursuit of promotion the first time around, Milan swooped and landed Gimenez for over £30m. He’s since managed seven goals and five assists in 30 appearances for the Italian giants.
Many have criticised Gimenez and Milan are now keen to offload the former Cruz Azul ace. According to TMW, Milan are willing to green-light a loan move for Gimenez with an obligation worth around £20m.
Leeds cannot spend big money, but they need reinforcements. So, the opportunity to sign a striker like Gimenez on loan cannot be ignored, especially with Gimenez being a target for Leeds during Farke’s era.

Kyle Walker compared Santiago Gimenez to Julian Alvarez
Gimenez has the ability to do a bit of everything and while the pressure of playing for a club like Milan has not got the best out of him, being made first choice at Elland Road might give him the stage to shine.
Kyle Walker is a big fan. The Burnley defender played alongside Gimenez while on loan at Milan last term, and he believes there are similarities in Gimenez’s style of play to Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez.
“I think he’s very similar in how he plays [to Alvarez],” Walker said, having played alongside Gimenez. “He has the technical ability to produce magic at any moment and he always runs for the team.”
With Leeds unable to spend, loan signings are likely to be targeted and given he is a player that has been on the Elland Road radar before and is available for a loan exit, Leeds have got to take action in January.
