Leeds have already experienced a transfer setback before the window even opens.

The 49ers are making a list and checking it twice as we approach the start of the winter transfer window on January 1st – with several targets already emerging.

Leeds are set to bid for Ruben Vargas of Sevilla – who is valued at £17m – while an approach has also been made for Joshua Zirkzee amid his struggles at Manchester United.

Martin Baturina of Como is another target for Leeds – but Tutto Mercato Web have now poured very cold water on the chances of a deal materialising.

Leeds United told to give up hope of signing Martin Baturina this winter

The Italian news outlet now state that Como currently view the Croatian as unsellable – despite the fact he has only made two starts in Serie A so far this season.

Do you think Martin Baturina would be a good signing? 🔥

Baturina scores screamer and assists as Dinamo Zagreb draw 2-2 with Monaco.

Baturina – who Leeds have made a move for, according to Fabrizio Romano – only arrived at Como in a £21m move from Dinamo Zagreb as recently as June.

Leeds sensed an opportunity due to his lack of playing time, but Tutto Mercato Web confidently claim that Como understand the ‘impact of a new environment requires an adjustment’ period, and have no plans to offload the 22-year-old so soon.

Therefore, the 49ers ought to move on, or else they risk wasting precious time to bolster the squad for Daniel Farke in what is notoriously a difficult window to do business in.

Ruben Vargas does seem likelier for Leeds United, however

While Leeds might now have to give up on Baturina – who Manuel Neuer has praised – the aforementioned Vargas seems like a target worth pursuing.

Could Ruben Vargas be the missing piece in Leeds’ jigsaw? 🔥

He's been excellent in Spain…

Ruben Vargas.

Spanish news outlet OrgulloBiri suggest a £17m bid from Leeds would tempt Sevilla as it will enable them to bolster other areas, amid financial limitations within the club.

Not only that, but Vargas is close friends with Noah Okafor and has already said in 2022 that he would love to play alongside his fellow Switzerland international.

Therefore, while the latest update on Baturina might have upset a few Leeds fans, there is a genuinely exciting link to focus on in the meantime when it comes to Vargas.
