Andrea Radrizzani has opened up on his decision to sack Jesse Marsch and leave Leeds United over the weekend, but how did Jesse Marsch react to Radrizzani’s decision to sack him?

Marsch was sacked by Radrizzani and Leeds in February 2023 after a dismal 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. It saw him leave a few weeks before approaching his first anniversary in the Leeds dugout.

But the American was ousted after a win rate below 30% from his 37 games in charge, losing 16 times and only picking up eight Premier League wins in the space of 12 months. Far below the standard.

Marsch’s work in the transfer window, his bizarre press conferences, and his unusually narrow tactics put an end to his Leeds stint. Leeds brought in Javi Gracia and then Sam Allardyce, but the damage was done.

Jesse Marsch said Andrea Radrizzani “lost his nerve”

There was a period where Marsch made numerous appearances in the media towards, as he looked to write a narrative around his Leeds sacking. Marsch has since impressed as Canada’s National Team boss.

Speaking at the end of 2023 to The Mail, almost a year after his sacking, Marsch claimed that then-owner Radrizzani had “lost his nerve” and believed had he remained, he would have kept Leeds in the top tier.

“We were a couple of results away from moving in the right direction. I believe everything was already moving the right direction. But in the end, the owner just lost his nerve. And he paid the price for it.”

What Andrea Radrizzani has now said about sacking Jesse Marsch

Many Leeds fans believe that had Radrizzani bitten the bullet and sacked Marsch during the World Cup break, Leeds would have been able to hire a better manager and give that manager the January window.

Had that been the right pick, it would have saved Leeds. Certainly, Leeds would have been able to attract a better calibre of manager than Gracia because there would have been more time to save the club.

But Leeds stuck with Marsch, he was winless after the World Cup break and by the time of his sacking, Leeds’ relegation was inevitable. Radrizzani told The Mail that sticking with Marsch was a mistake.

“I made many mistakes in my last year at Leeds. I made wrong decisions. I should have done things sooner. Like changing the coach [Marsch] before the 2022 World Cup,” Radrizzani admitted on Sunday.

Now, Daniel Farke is fighting to keep Leeds in the Premier League after tidying up Marsch’s mess and securing promotion. Radrizzani says he is a fan of Farke and praised The 49ers for sticking by him.
