Daniel Levy is no stranger to making big, controversial decisions and he did it once again last week by opting to relieve Ange Postecoglou of his duties – and it could actually help Leeds United.
The decision has been met with a stunned and angry reaction from Spurs fans, who had been revelling in the club’s history-defining Europa League victory over Man United. Archie Gray is a European champion.
But Spurs had lost 22 of their 38 Premier League games, albeit because focus was placed on the Spurs’ European exploits – which has earned them a spot in the Champions League for the 2025-26 campaign.
Spurs are now closing in on their replacement for Aussie gaffer Postecoglou, who lasted just two years under Levy’s stewardship. Brentford manager Thomas Frank is set to leave for Spurs, as per The Mirror.
Frank joining Tottenham likely to influence Bryan Mbuemo move
Frank has had his run-ins with Leeds and the club’s supporters over the years, but it is fair to say The Dane has done a tremendous job with Brentford. Now, he is closing in on a move to become Spurs boss.
A good move for Frank, who remains in London but takes over a club in the Champions League and will surely be given a sizeable budget, too. One player he could sign is Brentford sensation Bryan Mbuemo.
Manchester United had been closing in on a deal for Mbuemo but with nothing materialised and Frank now off to Spurs, The Sun say Spurs and Frank are ready to hijack Man United’s £60m move for Mbuemo.
Why Leeds can benefit from Tottenham signing Mbuemo
An expensive signing but one within Tottenham’s price range, it would be pretty damning for Man United to lose out in the race for Mbuemo. But as Frank joins Spurs, that does seem to be the direction of travel.
Spurs already have numerous wingers in Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Mikey Moore and plenty of others. Richarlison was used out wide by Postecoglou in the Europa League final.
Mbuemo joining that list only pushes Manor Solomon further down the pecking order. Solomon did seem like he would rejoin Leeds permanently after scoring the deciding goal for the Championship title.
But recent reports suggest that Solomon wants a second chance at Spurs. Leeds have been unable to find an agreement in talks with Spurs, but if Mbuemo joins, the Israel ace falls further down the pecking order.
That will surely help Solomon realise he has no future in North London and if he is to go anywhere, why not to the club that he has just helped gain promotion – guaranteeing him starts in the Premier League?
