Despite Daniel Farke’s repeated insistence of his commitment to Leeds United, there has always been a linger doubt about Max Wober’s future.
Farke claimed Wober told him in his office after Leeds’ pre-season tour of Germany that Elland Road is where he wants to be, yet he hasn’t really shown it publicly.
However, in his only competitive start since returning, Wober produced a dreadful display against Middlesbrough, and has since missed two matches due to an apparent calf issue.
Alongside Brenden Aaronson, Wober is one of two players to have returned from loan spells away from Leeds last season, but the Austrian could not have handled it any differently.
After fronting up the press in pre-season, Aaronson has worked hard to get himself in the starting XI, scoring two league goals in three matches, and going a long way to winning back the fans’ support.

Why Wober now looks set for Leeds stay
Ever since Aaronson made his decision, there have been virtually no rumours he would be anywhere but Leeds.
For Wober, however, there has been constant chatter regarding a potential move to Borussia Monchengladbach, where he spent last season on loan.
Director Roland Virkus has hinted on a couple of occasions they would make a late move, but Leeds have always said he wouldn’t be allowed to leave on loan again.
It has also been reported Wober would be keen on a move back to Gladbach but the latest update from Sky in Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg mean his hopes of a move are all but over.
Gladbach had been in talks with PSV over the sale of key centre-back Ko Itakura but have now decided he will not be going anywhere due to his importance to the team.
With that in mind, it looks highly unlikely Gladbach will enter the market for a replacement, which could well have been Wober after the season he had last year.

Wober has to knuckle down at Leeds
Wober now has no choice but to get his head down and work hard at Leeds as fans are already growing sceptical about his interest in being here.
Unfortunately for him, he is going to have to be patient when it comes to game time as Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon are the undisputable first choice partnership.
Struijk showed last season he could be vulnerable to potential injury issues and Wober simply has to be ready to take his chance when it comes around.
Aaronson has showed him how a couple of good performances can get fans back onside very quickly.
