Three winners and three losers as Leeds United draw against QPR… Daniel Farke mainstay loses 12 duels

Leeds United fans will be waking up on Sunday morning feeling a touch frustrated that Daniel Farke’s side did not press home a win after coming from two goals down to equalise on 50 minutes.

Loftus Road has been a tricky away day for Leeds over the last 10 years. Marcelo Bielsa lost three of his five matches against QPR during his iconic stint as manager and Daniel Farke lost 4-0 there last season.

Leeds looked like that run would extend against QPR on Saturday, with the lunchtime hoodoo once again having an impact. But, unlike last season, Leeds came from behind to draw level just after half-time.

Leeds scored through Junior Firpo just before the break, while Jayden Bogle levelled the clash. However, Leeds failed to press home their momentum and the two sides shared the spoils in London at the break.

Three winners from Leeds United’s draw against QPR

Wilfried Gnonto

It has been a frustrating season for Gnonto. A good start was followed by a little dip in form just as Manor Solomon and Dan James started to hit form and it has seen Gnonto fail to start a league game in 2025.

Plenty have called for Gnonto to get a chance in the 10 role with Brenden Aaronson struggling and he was ushered on at half-time, laying on a gorgeous pass that ended up with Bogle scoring for Leeds.

Ilia Gruev

The Bulgaria international remained an unused sub on Saturday, despite normally starting the away games for Leeds. However, Joe Rothwell was preferred after his superb display during the win vs Millwall.

While Rothwell did little wrong without excelling against QPR, but Leeds lacked control throughout and Farke suggested afterwards Leeds missed Gruev’s ability to assure that control in the middle of the park.

Manor Solomon

Solomon had gone five games without a goal or an assist, a clear dip in form. But on Saturday he ended that run, laying on the assist for Junior Firpo’s goal – even if it has been registered as a possible own goal.

Solomon might have been frustrated when he came off but Farke said he likes to see that reaction, as it shows just how desperate these Leeds players are to win games and ultimately, earn Leeds promotion.

Brenden Aaronson

LeedsUnited.News has always tried to leap to the defence of Aaronson where possible. But on Saturday, there was no hiding for the American – who has just been dropped by USA manager Mauricio Pochettino.

His mistake for QPR’s first goal was woeful and he did little to improve Leeds’ position. There will now be real scrutiny on whether Aaronson starts after the break, or Gnonto comes in for the American.

Joel Piroe

Piroe had a largely anonymous game which is often the way with the Dutchman, often occupied by QPR’s two centre-backs. But what made it a bad day for the striker was what happened at Ashton Gate.

Friday night’s game in the Championship saw Bristol City beat Norwich 2-1, but Borja Sainz scored against for the Canaries. His 17th this season, while Piroe has been stuck on 15 for four goalless games.

Pascal Struijk

Struijk and Joe Rodon came up against a different challenge in the form of QPR’s big Swiss striker Michael Frey, who has scored seven goals this season. A physical, aerial challenge that saw the duo struggle.

Rodon was nowhere to be seen for Steve Cook’s header and QPR’s second but more alarmingly, Struijk lost a total of 12 of his 22 duels with Frey often bringing QPR up the pitch by winning those duels.
