Sebastiaan Bornauw is yet to play a single second of Premier League football for Leeds.
The £5.1m signing from VfL Wolfsburg has endured a miserable time in Yorkshire since his move from Germany in July, with Daniel Farke even leaving him out of the matchday squad in four out of nine Premier League outings so far this season.
As Sebastiaan Bornauw awaits an opportunity at Elland Road, comments from Josuha Guilavogui will surely be ringing around his head.
Josuha Guilavogui verdict on Leeds yet to come true for Sebastiaan Bornauw
The Belgium international knows the France international well, having played 30 games together for VfL Wolfsburg.
Upon moving to Elland Road, Bornauw revealed what Guilavogui told him about Leeds, telling Bryn Law: “I know Josh really well. When I asked him what he thought about Leeds, he sent me like 20 voice messages because we were both in the airport and couldn’t call. So yeah, like 20 voice messages.
“All one-minute (long). How good it is, how great it is, that it would fit my character really good. So yeah, he was so positive.”
Bornauw also stated that the “Premier League was my dream” – so it must hurt him to not even make the matchday squad some weeks.
That may all come true in time, but at the moment, Bornauw is still yet to experience the wonders of Leeds as Farke continues to overlook him.
The 26-year-old was handed 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup, but that ended in misery as Sheffield Wednesday knocked Leeds out on penalties in the second round.
What Daniel Farke said about Sebastiaan Bornauw situation last week
Jaka Bijol has only just made his first Premier League start in the 2-1 win over West Ham, having been made to wait until Farke broke up the pairing of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.
By the sounds of it, Bornauw will need to show patience too.
Discussing the Belgian before that win over West Ham, Farke said: “It’s always a bit tricky at centre-back, you don’t change it much. Wingers, strikers, creative midfielders (you change). If you’re chasing a game, changing a centre-back doesn’t make much of an impact.
“It was good for Jaka that he had the two games, 90 minutes (in each) for his national team. That’s quite important. For Sebastiaan, it is a bit more tricky because he was not called up for Belgium.”
Bornauw has almost exclusively played at centre-back throughout his career, making 178 appearances in that position with a single appearance at right-back too.
Therefore, the Leeds No.23 doesn’t even have any versatility to fall back on and earn a chance under Farke, so his hopes of Premier League action could well rest on a regular getting injured.
