Sebastiaan Bornauw has been confirmed as Leeds United’s third summer signing after putting pen to paper on a four-year contract at Elland Road, after speaking with Josuha Guilavogui.
Today is the day that saw Guilavogui spend his first day as a free agent after officially leaving Leeds on a free transfer. His contract expired on June 30, as did Junior Firpo and Sam Byram’s Elland Road deals.
But Guilavogui has already played a key role in two of Leeds’ three deals. Leaving as a loved figure among the Elland Road terraces, Lukas Nmecha shares how he spoke to Guilavogui about a move to Leeds.
How Guilavogui convinced the Germany international of choosing Leeds, with the club confirming that other Premier League clubs had shown interest in Nmecha. Now, he’s been speaking to newbie Bornauw.

What Josuha Guilavogui sent to Sebastiaan Bornauw about Leeds
Bornauw and Guilavogui shared the pitch for Wolfsburg on 30 occasions over the course of Bornauw’s four-year spell with Wolfsburg. They know each other well, it saw Bornauw ask Guilavogui about Leeds.
Speaking to LUTV commentator Bryn Law in his first interview as a Leeds player, Bornauw said that he had asked Guilavogui about Leeds. The Frenchman responded by sending Bornauw 20 voice messages.

“I know Josh really well. When I asked him what he thought about Leeds, he sent me like 20 voice messages because we were both in the airport and couldn’t call. So yeah, like 20 voice messages,” he said.
“All one-minute [long]. How good it is, how great it is, that it would fit my character really good. So yeah, he was so positive. I know the people liked him here,” Bornauw said when asked if about Guilavogui.
Max Wober now destined for Leeds United exit; the situation
Leeds are expected to start the 2025-26 campaign with Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol as starting options in defence. Pascal Struijk remains, probably as first reserve to Rodon and Bijol, and Bornauw replaces Wober.
It comes after Wober admitted he had been told by Leeds that he would be sold this summer. Wober only managed nine appearances for Leeds during 2024-25, forced to undergo two operations on his knee.
LeedsUnited.News has learnt that Bundesliga clubs are showing interest in Wober and there is a chance that Wolfsburg could replace the loss of former Anderlecht defender Bornauw by signing Wober.
