Leeds United can get off to a quick start in the transfer market with other clubs dealing with the FIFA Club World Cup.

It appears it’s been that way with Lukas Nmecha already through the door, and Leeds look to secure Jaka Bijol on top of that.

With Chelsea in the competition, there could always be a chance for Leeds to swoop in for Djordje Petrovic

Clubs could be distracted, and someone who could be looking into the competition is Marcelo Bielsa.

This is because the former Leeds boss will have parts of his Uruguay squad featuring, but also because of a more important matter that he made clear in 2021.

Bielsa was always wise when it came to making decisions at Leeds.

If he had experienced an ownership like the 49ers, the Argentine could still be at Elland Road today, but it seemed like previous owners let him down with players who ultimately flopped or when players were sold, as Ronaldo Viera leaving left Bielsa unhappy.

But the former Whites manager has always been very expressive with his views, and made something very clear about the state of football.

When managing Leeds during the 21/22 season, Bielsa called out the higher-ups in football for the excessive amount of games, but pointed out how football is ‘deteriorating’.

“I have serious doubts over the future of professional football because it is constantly commercialised and the product is worse,” Bielsa said.

“It’s based on selling more games, but it ignores whether teams are in better conditions to offer better results. It brings me great sadness to see how football is deteriorating.”

Bielsa’s prediction at Leeds has come true at the Club World Cup

The Argentine was clearly ahead of his time as he saw the game we love begin to crumble.

Although the Premier League is holding strong, money is still getting in the way, with the gap getting larger between the Championship and the top flight each season.

This could see Troy Deeney’s prediction of Leeds getting relegated come to fruition, but with the 49ers aiming to spend £150m, this might not happen.

Something that does appear doomed though, is the new format of the Club World Cup, which stretches throughout the summer to the 13th July.

This is due to the competition being a complete flop in the early stages, as stadiums struggle to bring in the numbers due to a lack of interest.

Backing up Bielsa’s point from 2021, the amount of games is absurd, with PSG boss Luis Enrique agreeing after their 4-0 win against Atletico Madrid, saying, it’s ‘impossible to perform at a very high level’ for 90 minutes.

As the former Leeds boss said, all football now is selling games and not actually focusing on the conditions of the teams, and explains clearly why there have been a lack of results from FIFA’s project.

Once again, Bielsa has been proven right.
