Leeds United’s social media activity is making their stance clear on plans for Georginio Rutter this summer

Georginio Rutter is the latest Leeds United star attracting big money interest from one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Rutter reported back for day one of pre-season at Thorp Arch on Tuesday after Leeds had turned down a £30 million offer from Brighton & Hove Albion.

News of Brighton’s offer came just a matter of hours after Archie Gray had sealed his £40 million switch to Tottenham Hotspur, which is Leeds’ first big money sale of the summer.

And while Gray’s move has significantly eased Leeds‘ PSR concerns, it is not going to deter clubs from looking at some of Daniel Farke‘s other key players.

As well as Brighton’s interest in Rutter, PSG are now believed to be keen on Crysencio Summerville, while Rennes are eyeing a move for Glen Kamara.

Social media activity shows Leeds stance on Rutter

Rutter and Gray were arguably the two main fan favourites at Leeds last season and losing both in the same summer would be a bitter pill to swallow.

The difference between their situations, though, is the profit in which they can generate. As Gray came through the academy, he represents ‘pure profit’ towards PSR.

Rutter, on the other hand, is Leeds’ club record signing at around £35.5 million and so an offer higher than that amount would need to come in to make selling him worthwhile.

However, Farke and the 49ers will be determined not to lose all of their best players this summer and it would appear Leeds’ social media activity is making their stance on Rutter clear publicly.

Ever since news of Brighton’s offer for the 22-year-old emerged at around 7pm last night, Leeds have put out three different posts across their social media platforms about Rutter, the first of which came literally minutes after. A further two have followed this morning.

While Leeds’ media team obviously have no say on who stays or goes, they will know which players are wise or unwise to keep posting. Rutter is clearly falling under the former.

What has Rutter said about his future?

Rutter still has four years left on his deal at Elland Road and so Leeds are in a strong position to keep him irrespective of whether he forces through a move.

However, it feels incredibly unlikely that Rutter would do that considering how happy he looked both on and off the pitch at Leeds last season.

The only real hint we have from Rutter as of yet is his post-Wembley Instagram message to supporters in which he indicated he would be here next season.

He wrote: Hello Leeds fans, a few days have passed but still as much disappointment, the objective was not achieved despite a superb season where each of us gave our maximum. Thank you for your support throughout the year see you soon. MOT.”
