Leeds United fans have shared their immediate reaction after the club confirmed the signing of England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has officially become Leeds’ eighth signing of the season, joining as a free agent ahead of the new Premier League season.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke has made no secret of his desire to strengthen Leeds’ options in attack, and Calvert-Lewin will compete with Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha for a starting place at centre forward.

With talks ongoing with Leicester City’s James Justin, the final shape of Farke’s squad is becoming apparent as Leeds prepare for their first game of the season against Everton.

Now, fans have shared their immediate reaction to Calvert-Lewin’s arrival, with an overriding sentiment emerging.

Leeds United fans react to Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing

Posting on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) in the immediate aftermath of the deal to bring Calvert-Lewin to Elland Road, Leeds fans shared their immediate reaction.

The overriding feeling among the Leeds fans was supportive towards Calvert-Lewin as fans sent messages of support to their new front man, summed up by one who wrote: “Will be first admit not my number one choice. But the lad has signed now, so I’m 100% behind him.”

Another fan was willing to put their previous doubts to bed, posting: “Don’t care about anything else. He’s Leeds now. If he stays fit, he’s good enough to be a success here. If someone else signed him, people would moan we weren’t in for him.”

In the video announcing his arrival, Calvert-Lewin stated that “pressure is a privilege”, and this won around one fan, who said: “The pressure is a privilege. Love it. He now dons a Leeds shirt, so let’s show him why the Leeds fans are the best in the world. MOT.”

One fan believes Calvert-Lewin could still make the World Cup for England, in a bold prediction which stated: “Harry Kane’s back up as we win the World Cup next year, just watch.”

Another fan urged Leeds to give their new signing a “fair craic of the whip”, arguing: “Give him a fair craic of the whip. New surroundings might be exactly what he needs. There’s a good player in there. Feel sorry for Paddy though, as both are very similar players”.

The only caveat to the Leeds fans’ response was over Calvert-Lewin’s fitness, which recurred again in one fan’s post, which read: “Welcome Dominic Calvert-Lewin! Keep yourself fit and give it your all – that’s all we ask! Marching on Together.”

Daniel Farke explains what ‘outstanding’ Calvert-Lewin will bring to Leeds

Speaking in his press conference shortly before the deal for Calvert-Lewin was announced, Daniel Farke explained exactly what the striker will bring to the club.

According to the Leeds boss, his experience in the Premier League and at international level will be crucial to Leeds’ survival hopes.

Farke said: “He’s a really good age, he is proven at the Premier League level, has way more than 200 Premier League games, has scored nearly 60 goals on this level, I think 11 appearances for the England team, has scored four goals, so we don’t have to speak about his qualities.

“He has more or less all the skills that you would like your striker to have. Of course, his last few seasons were a bit interrupted by a few injuries, but also by doing this, he still managed to play 26 games, for example, last season.”

Leeds fans will hope that he can now find the goals that fired him into England contention in the past.
