Following Leeds United’s victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday night, Daniel Farke’s men will surely be confident that they can take anyone on at Elland Road.

There is plenty of optimism around West Yorkshire right now. Leeds appear to have found a formula which may well lead to the Whites managing to stay in the Premier League. Crucially, it was unearthed during the run that threatened to spell the end of Daniel Farke‘s tenure.

Leeds have beaten Chelsea and Crystal Palace within their last four games. Meanwhile, you would have to go back to the spirited showing at Manchester City for the last time the Whites lost.

With that, Farke has a great opportunity to achieve what no Leeds boss has managed since Simon Grayson – particularly in light of some reports over the weekend.

Leeds United have a fantastic chance to go and end 16-year wait for a win over Manchester United

The Leeds manager will be focused on Sunderland after Christmas. However, it is difficult for all fans to not look ahead to that home game against Manchester United in early January.

Leeds have not beaten Manchester United since that FA Cup tie in 2010 when Jermaine Beckford latched onto Jonny Howson‘s sumptuous pass.

Meanwhile, you would have to go back to 2002 for the last time Leeds won in the league against their old rivals. Terry Venables was in charge that day.

Ruben Amorim appears to have steadied the ship at Old Trafford recently, with Manchester United losing just two of their last 11 games.

And Bruno Fernandes has been pivotal in that run, scoring three goals and contributing seven assists. But they were dealt a big blow on Sunday, with the Portuguese star taken off at half-time of their clash with Aston Villa due to injury.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Fernandes is now facing at least a month on the sidelines. It appears that he will not be returning to Elland Road in early January.

The last time Manchester United won a game Bruno Fernandes played absolutely no part in

Manchester United have been heavily reliant on Fernandes over the years. He has been directly involved in 196 goals in 308 games for the club in all competitions.

Unfortunately, only Villa have conceded more goals from Fernandes than Leeds. And given his current form, it is probably not a huge surprise that Amorim’s side went on to lose on Sunday.

Fernandes does not miss more than a handful of games a season. Nevertheless, it is ominous for Manchester United that you would have to go back to March 2022 for the last time they won a game their captain played absolutely no part in.

With Elland Road likely to be in incredible voice for that game – which comes 16 years and one day after the famous win at Old Trafford – Leeds have an amazing opportunity to find out just how important Fernandes is to this Manchester United side.
