Deadline day has begun in chaotic fashion for Leeds United, as it so often does, and one player Daniel Farke is trying to sign is Gustavo Hamer at Sheffield United.

Since last summer, Gustavo Hamer has been a target for Daniel Farke. Leeds United had a bid rejected for Hamer last summer and his links to Elland Road have persisted going into this summer, following Sheffield United’s defeat in the Championship play-off final.

Throughout the summer, it has been Leeds United and Dutch giants PSV who’ve been most closely linked with the midfielder. Now, following what’s been a disastrous start to the new season for Sheffield United who’ve lost their opening four league games, Hamer looks poised for a deadline day move away from Bramall Lane.

Joey Veerman update spells bad news for Leeds United’s Gustavo Hamer hopes

Going into deadline day, it was reported that PSV were closing in on a deal to sign Hamer from the Blades. However, subsequent reports in the Netherlands revealed that PSV would only sign Hamer if they lost Joey Veerman, who has been a transfer target for Brentford.

Then, on Monday morning, journalist Alex Crook revealed that Yoane Wissa is set to leave Brentford for Newcastle United. Straight after, Crook then revealed that ‘Brentford are still hoping to sign Veerman’ from PSV, which will spell bad news for Leeds United where a move for Hamer is regarded.

Daniel Farke has made one huge blunder at Leeds United this summer

It’s been clear even since last season that Leeds United need a new number 10, even if they had failed to achieve promotion. Farke desperately needed an upgrade and some competition for Brenden Aaronson. And Leeds have had all summer long to sign such a player, but yet it still goes right down to the wire.

Leeds left it too late to sign Emi Buendia, Eduard Spertsyan looks unlikely to leave Krasnodar this summer, and Bilal El Khannouss has opted to join Stuttgart over Leeds United. Now with a deal for Hamer hanging in the balance, it risks Farke going into the new season without a key piece in the puzzle.

Having only scored once in three Premier League games so far this season, there are huge question marks over whether Leeds have enough firepower to keep themselves in the Premier League this season.

If another new attacker isn’t signed on deadline day, it could be a long road to January.
