I was at Elland Road and saw ‘brilliant’ player have his best game in a Leeds United shirt

Leeds United ended 2024 at Elland Road in style with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Oxford.

The Whites were playing their last game of the calendar year on home soil and after a difficult first half with the wind in their faces, eased to a three points that ensures they go into Christmas second.

Dan James continued his excellent run of form with the opener as he slid in a lovely ball into the box from Manor Solomon.

Chances were at a premium for Leeds until the break but once Jayden Bogle finished off a free flowing move just before the hour mark, it was all one way traffic.

Brenden Aaronson and Solomon then scored Leeds’ third and fourth in quick succession to round off the win and make it nine home wins in a row.

Manor Solomon enjoys best game for Leeds in Oxford win

In the end, there were plenty of positives for Leeds to take but perhaps the biggest is the performance of Solomon.

Farke said Solomon’s cameo at Preston North End last weekend was his best in a Leeds shirt but today’s display against Oxford may just be his most complete yet.

It was his really sharp and incisive piece of play that set up James’ opener, bursting through a sliding challenge before putting it on an absolute plate with his weaker foot.

He then really came into his own in the second half once Oxford began to tire and after picking up a really slack pass in the middle of the pitch, the ‘brilliant‘ Solomon put Aaronson in on goal for his second assist of the day.

Just as he was about to be substituted Solomon then put the icing on the cake or his performance by smashing in a roof of the net finish, again with his weaker foot.

Alongside James and Joe Rothwell, Solomon was a real joy to watch and it is clear how much confidence he is playing with right now.

Solomon stats vs Oxford

The statistics of Solomon’s performance backup exactly what the eye test saw at Elland Road.

Solomon was completing his dribbles, creating chances and winning his attacking duels.
