Gustavo Hamer is emerging as a big transfer target for Leeds United and his favourite squad numbers are up for grabs at Elland Road.

Leeds United are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke called for ‘ambition’ from the 49ers moments after promotion was secured and it’s clear why he wants backing in the market.

Farke struggled in his two Premier League campaigns with Norwich City after his club spent a pittance on new players and it’s clear Leeds will need to significantly improve the squad to survive.

Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton all spent millions last summer but went straight back down, so Leeds know they’ll have to not only spend money but do so on real quality.

Gustavo Hamer could be just that, as reports linking him with a transfer to Leeds are growing once again after Sheffield United lost the Play-off final to Sunderland.

Leeds have been interested in Hamer for years and a move could finally happen this summer, with Sheffield United reportedly resigned to losing their star playmaker.

Angus Kinnear’s Everton are also said to be interested so Leeds will have competition but they can offer Hamer his favourite shirt numbers at Elland Road.

Gustavo Hamer can claim his perfect squad number at Leeds United

Hamer currently wears the No.8 shirt for Sheffield United and, luckily for him, that number is now available at Leeds.

Joe Rothwell sported the jersey during the 2024-25 Championship-winning season but he was only on loan from Bournemouth for a year.

The midfielder will return to his parent club and leave the No.8 shirt available for any new incoming signing this summer.

Another one of Hamer’s favourite numbers is No.38, a shirt he wore at Coventry City, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord.

No.38 isn’t as high in demand as No.8 and hasn’t been worn at Leeds since 2023, when Alfie McCalmont was handed the shirt.

How much would Gustavo Hamer could cost Leeds United?

Sheffield United signed Hamer from Coventry in 2023 for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £15m.

The Dutchman still has two years remaining on his contract, so the Blades aren’t going to let him go on the cheap even if they accept he will depart for the Premier League.

Sheffield United fans are hoping for £30m but they’re unlikely to get that much for the playmaker who soon turns 28.

A fee around £15m-£20m might appeal to Leeds, though, and represent a PSR profit for Chris Wilder’s side.
