Yannick Bolasie was amongst those to laud Willy Gnonto on social media following the Leeds United winger’s performance in Friday night’s win over Bristol City.
With Daniel James injured, Willy Gnonto made a rare start in the Championship this season. The Italian is yet to rediscover the form from his initial burst in the first-team last term.
But it was the 20-year-old who came up with a big goal at Ashton Gate. Leeds were largely dominant against the Robins. However, the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter were denied in front of goal.

But when Junior Firpo’s pass found its way through to Gnonto via a touch from Patrick Bamford right at the start of the second-half, the forward was able to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and find the back of the net.
It was clear how much the goal meant to Gnonto. And it could be a massive goal in the promotion race with Daniel Farke‘s side unable to double their lead at any stage.

Forward ready to step up in promotion race
It would be a massive plus for Leeds if we have Gnonto finding his best form again. The promotion race is hotting up to the point where no team seems to be allowed to slip up.
Obviously, James and Summerville have been two of our best players this season. So it is going to be hard for the likes of Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony to force their way into the starting lineup on a consistent basis.
But it was Gnonto who scored the decisive goal on Friday night. And some of his running should leave Farke optimistic that he can step up while James is sidelined.
It certainly bodes well for Leeds that we have so many game-changers in the ranks. And hopefully the best of Gnonto is still to come this season.
