Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed Nadiem Amiri will be in his squad to face Borussia Monchengladbach tomorrow amid interest from Leeds United.
Alonso was speaking in his pre-match press conference, via Sky in Germany reporter Marlon Irlbacher, ahead of the game, where was quizzed on the future of Amiri.
As per Phil Hay, Leeds have reached an agreement of £5 million with Leverkusen to sign the 26-year-old, though as of last night, is still in Germany.
It is said that Amiri is yet to give the final green light on a deal despite reports from Germany suggesting yesterday that he had agreed a four-year-deal.
Of course, this does not necessarily mean a transfer is off, with Raphinha having played for Rennes just hours before he flew to England to complete a move to Leeds in 2020.
Alonso says Leeds target Amiri is in Leverkusen squad tomorrow
Alonso remained tight-lipped on Leeds’ pursuit of Amiri in his press conference, but was not afraid to confirm he will feature for Leverkusen on Saturday.
He said: “Nadiem Amiri is in the squad against Borussia Monchengladbach.”
This does throw a slight spanner in the works of a transfer as it would suggest Amiri is yet to agree personal terms given the two clubs have shook hands on a free.
A lot could change between now and their game tomorrow, with Leverkusen scheduled to face Daniel Farke’s former side Monchengladbach at 5.30pm BST.
It will be interesting to see how this transfer develops over the next 24 hours with Leeds having been keen to make him their next signing after Joel Piroe.
