Sean McGurk is definitely managing to make an impact for his new club after leaving Leeds United during the January transfer window.

Sean McGurk left Elland Road last month after failing to take that next step into the first-team. The 20-year-old had been a stalwart of the under-21 side during his time with the Whites, scoring four and providing three assists in Premier League 2 this season. But Leeds gave him the green light to join Swindon Town in January.

It looked to be a good move for the youngster. The Robins are a side who should realistically be in League One, rather than languishing in the bottom-half of the division below. So there will be plenty of opportunities for McGurk to grow while at the County Ground.

And he is off to a flying start.

Sean McGurk off to brilliant start at Swindon

McGurk opened his account for Swindon in his second game with a brilliant goal. And he has now made it two in his last three, after opening the scoring in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.

McGurk did superbly to fool the defender with a dummy before finding the back of the net. And he would also play a key role in the crucial third goal, with his through ball eventually being latched onto by Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

Time was right for youngster to leave Leeds

Obviously, you can understand why Leeds decided to let McGurk go in January. Perhaps the only surprise was that he did not leave on loan first.

But Daniel Farke’s squad has so much quality in the final third. The likes of Jaidon Anthony and Willy Gnonto have almost been fringe players for much of this season. So it was always going to be incredibly difficult for McGurk to take that next step.

He had more than proven himself at under-21 level. So he could not have carried on playing at that level much longer at this stage of his career.

Hopefully, his recent run for Swindon proves to be a sign of what is to come from McGurk.
