Robbie Evans is an important figure in the structure of Leeds United and here’s what you need to know about him.

The last few months have seen plenty of change throughout the internal structure of Leeds United.

Angus Kinnear’s departure to Everton sparked a complete reshuffle at the executive level, with several employees earning promotions as a result.

Adam Underwood was made sporting director, Morrie Eisenberg was appointed as chief business officer and Robbie Evans was promoted to managing director.

Though Daniel Farke and his players are the ones tasked with getting results on the pitch, they need those in important positions in the club to be firing on all cylinders as well.

Evans holds a crucial role and here is what you need to know about him.

Who is Robbie Evans?

Robbie Evans is an experienced executive who has worked in sports business and outside of it.

He studied economics at the renowned Stanford University, where he was also a keen rower.

When did Robbie Evans join Leeds United?

Evans, who was already very familiar to Paraag Marathe and the 49ers, was hired by Leeds in November 2023, following the takeover.

He was initially recruited as the club’s chief strategy officer but was promoted to managing director in April 2025.

Upon his appointment amid several changes in the club, Marathe said: “I am excited to welcome this group into their new roles as leaders of the club.

“These appointments are a recognition of the depth of our leadership team, our significant sporting and business achievements over the past two seasons, and our commitment to building a high-performing club led by individuals who represent Leeds United inside and out.

“I am confident they will help drive the club forward in this next chapter.”

Who else has Robbie Evans worked for?

Evans’ illustrious career began as a financial investments associate for the Stanford Management Company, where he spent nearly three years.

He first entered the world of sports in 2010 when he was hired as a strategic planning associate by the San Francisco 49ers. Evans was promoted to manager of the department after 18 months.

Evans left for Invitae, a publicly traded company with more than 2,000 employees, in 2012 and would spend the next 11 years there.

Starting off as a strategic analyst, Evans worked his way up the ranks to the position of Chief Strategy Officer.

In 2023, he began working for the 49ers again as an executive advisor and shortly afterwards moved to Elland Road.

What has Robbie Evans said about Leeds United?

Given his position of power within Leeds, Evans is deeply involved in transfers and oversees the recruitment department.

With emotions high after the disastrous deadline day in 2025, Evans stuck his head above the parapet to face questions from the media.

Evans made it clear Leeds wouldn’t be signing any free agents after failing to bring in an attacking midfielder and that the club had maxed out its PSR limit in the transfer window.

In some good news, he did reveal that none of the 10 new signings have a clause in their contract that would allow them to leave on loan should Leeds be relegated.

Such clauses allowed the likes of Jack Harrison, Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober leave Leeds when they dropped out of the Premier League in 2023.

“I can say categorically we don’t have any relegation loan clauses, which I found to be by far the most catastrophic,” he told the BBC.

“Some players have relegation sale clauses. All of them are at a price, at or well above the price, paid for them and many of them don’t.

“I’m pretty confident that any player that comes down either, we’ll be in control of their sale or if they’re sold, I’m comfortable with the return they’ll have generated.”
