The plaudits continue to flow in for Leeds United after their run of four games unbeaten and eight points secured, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the talk of the town at the moment.
The 11-time England striker now has seven goals for Leeds in the Premier League this season, but six of those have come in the last five. Calvert-Lewin has scored in five consecutive Premier League games.
It was 2003 when a Leeds player managed to do that, in Mark Viduka. With plenty of chat about a World Cup call-up, Calvert-Lewin needs to continue his resurgent form after so many seasons plagued by injury.
Leeds go to Sunderland on Sunday, the final game of the year as Daniel Farke looks to enter 2026 with a run of five games unbeaten. Calvert-Lewin will be one of the first names on the Leeds team sheet.
This was Daniel Farke’s best performance as Leeds manager – Prove me wrong! 💪
Palace had no answers for Farke's 'hybrid' system. Relive it all here!
Chris Sutton and Pat Nevin make big Dominic Calvert-Lewin claim
What has been remarkable about Calvert-Lewin’s form, is his goal map. A straight line of seven goals from penalty spot to the goal, showing just how effective the former Everton man is in the penalty area.
Speaking on Monday Night Club this week, Pat Nevin asked Chris Sutton if he could think of a striker who was better than Calvert-Lewin in the air. The duo thinks his leap is even better than Erling Haaland’s jump.
Nevin started: “Calvert-Lewin, if you play a ball up [to a striker], in the air, and you have to climb, who is better than him in the current game? At winning the ball and flicking it on, I don’t know if anyone is.

Sutton replied: “I don’t think anybody has his hang time, or leap. Haaland is not the same type as Calvert-Lewin he may score a few more goals than Calvert-Lewin but Calvert-Lewin would beat him at leaping.”
What are Calvert-Lewin’s chances of an England call-up?
No Premier League player is scoring like Calvert-Lewin right now. Haaland and Hugo Ekitike have five goals in their last five Premier League games, but Calvert-Lewin has six and is going strength to strength.
So, does he deserve a chance with England? Thomas Tuchel will not pick his next England squad until March, where the Three Lions face Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay and then Ao Tanaka’s Japan in friendlies.
England need Dominic Calvert-Lewin more than they need Ollie Watkins – surely? 🦁🦁🦁
Who are you taking and why?
Then, it’s the World Cup. Calvert-Lewin needs to maintain his form and if he goes on to score 15 or more Premier League goals, surely it would be impossible for Tuchel to ignore when he picks his squad.
Ollie Watkins only has three Premier League goals so far, while Ivan Toney doesn’t seem to be under consideration. Gary Lineker and Wayne Rooney agree however, Watkins remains above Calvert-Lewin.
