Leeds United hope as key Daniel Farke target hints at exit in January window

January presents an opportunity for Leeds United to build on the brilliant start made by Daniel Farke’s men in the first half of the season, and a key target may have just hinted he’s available.

Managing director Robbie Evans has outlined Leeds’ position when it comes to PSR, but a willingness to bring players to Elland Road close to the deadline shows there might be some wiggle room, indeed.

LeedsUnited.News understands there is money to spend, and Leeds have room to do so. Leeds are also capable of selling a player or two to give them more room, with Willy Gnonto a possible PSR sale.

Should Leeds follow Nottingham Forest’s path and risk a points deduction? 💸

“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”

So, if Leeds want to spend and a key target is available, then Farke and the 49ers could be tempted into doing something next month. Well, one elusive Leeds target has just hinted he could be on the move.

Harry Wilson hints he could leave Fulham before World Cup

The chances of Fulham accepting an offer from Leeds for Wales wizard Harry Wilson in January seem small. Fulham have gone four clear of Leeds and now sit in 13th, after a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

But there is every chance that Fulham will be in the bottom six come the end of the season, a direct rival to Leeds. Of course, Leeds pushed and pushed on the final day to get a deal done for the Wales star.

But Fulham pulled the plug on his move to Leeds. There have been many reports stating that while Leeds remain interested, Fulham will not allow him to join a rival. However, Wilson has now hinted at an exit.

Leeds United still want him, but can they sign Harry Wilson in January? 🤞

Leeds wanted Wilson in Jan.

“They [Leeds] would remain keen again in January as they look to strengthen their squad for a battle against relegation, but a move [for Wilson] is currently deemed unlikely.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilson was asked about his contract, which expires in the summer. He also said that he wants to be “somewhere” where he is first choice before the World Cup with Wales in the mix.

“Yeah, not a lot really,” Wilson said when asked for a contract update. “I’m fully focused on playing. I play football because I love the game, and wherever I am, it’s got to be somewhere where I’m going to play.

“That’s what I love doing. If we get to the World Cup, I want to be in the best shape. What’s going to put me in the best position is somewhere where I’m playing, getting the minutes, playing well,” Wilson said.

“Hopefully scoring and assisting, I’ve been able to do that the last couple of months. Whatever happens after that happens. This next contract has got to be right for me and my family. We’ll see what happens.”

Harry Wilson’s form is a painful reminder for Leeds United fans

Wilson himself says that a move to Leeds “was going to happen”, and then it wasn’t. It is believed he was keen on a move, likely because so many of his Wales teammates currently reside at Leeds under Farke.

But Wilson’s eight goals and assists in 16 games is a constant reminder to Leeds fans of what they could have had. That set-piece specialist, magic out of nothing, dual-footed genius capable of changing games.

Perhaps, there remains a world in which Wilson is willing to leave Fulham to join Leeds in January. It feels very unlikely that Fulham would sell to Leeds and the Cottagers would rather lose Wilson on a free deal.

But while there is hope, there is a chance. Wilson’s comments do come as a bit of a surprise and will not convince Fulham fans that he is staying put over the next six weeks. Leeds will surely be keeping tabs.
